Ainslie has worked in the human services for the last 15 years – including working in mental health, addictions, disability, child protection and women’s safety services. Most recently she was working in Melbourne leading a project focused on increasing social inclusion and decreasing social isolation, for individuals with disabilities. Prior to this she has been involved in several community projects within the disability sector supporting funding empowerment, developing natural supports and circles of support, relationship development, individualised life dreaming, sexuality and disability, and holistic health. Ainslie has also delivered training on how staff and services can support people in their development of their optimum life – creating what they consider ‘a good life’ for themselves. She grew up in West Auckland, and has focused her studies on sociology in relation to human service work, and is a keen tennis player, a motorbike pillion, and coffee drinker.
